Two foreign tourists were targeted in separate street crime incidents in Badung less than four hours apart, with a gold necklace and a black iPhone 16 stolen. The cases occurred in two tourist areas between Friday night and early Saturday, July 17–18, 2026.
Denpasar Police are investigating both reports by seeking witness accounts and reviewing CCTV footage near the scenes. No arrests had been reported while the investigations were ongoing.

The first incident involved PP, a 28-year-old visitor from India, who had finished dinner at a restaurant in Seminyak. He was waiting for a taxi on Jalan Laksamana Basangkasa when the theft occurred.
A man riding a black motorcycle reportedly approached from behind and snatched the necklace from the victim’s neck. The suspect then left the area immediately.
Denpasar Police public relations chief Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya described the reported sequence of events on Sunday, July 19, 2026. “Suddenly, a man riding a black motorcycle came from behind and directly snatched the gold necklace worn around the victim’s neck,” he said.
The stolen necklace weighed about 11 grams and was estimated to be worth tens of millions of rupiah. PP later filed a report with Denpasar Police after the suspect escaped.
Phone Taken From Motorcycle Holder
The second case was reported at Ocean View on Jalan Raya Uluwatu in Pecatu, South Kuta. IEM, a 21-year-old tourist from the Netherlands, had stopped at a small shop to buy cigarettes.
The victim had left a black iPhone 16 attached to the motorcycle holder while entering the shop. Upon coming out, IEM saw a man taking the phone.
IEM attempted to pursue the suspect and managed to grab his shirt. The suspect broke free and fled on a motorcycle with the phone.
“The victim spontaneously chased the perpetrator and even managed to pull the perpetrator’s shirt. However, the perpetrator managed to break free, then sped away on a motorcycle and fled,” I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said.
CCTV Review Continues
Investigators are examining camera footage around both locations to identify the suspects and trace their movements. Police are also assessing whether the incidents may indicate a wider street crime network operating in Badung’s tourist areas.
The two reports underline how quickly thefts were reported in different parts of Badung during the same night. The investigation remains focused on identifying those responsible through witnesses and available surveillance footage.
