Samsung Bets on a Wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 With Its Biggest Foldable Production Plan

Samsung is reportedly planning to produce 2.8 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units, making it the company’s highest-volume foldable model in the upcoming lineup. The target exceeds the reported plans for both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

The allocation is notable because Samsung had previously been said to be preparing nearly balanced production capacity for the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra. The revised plan suggests that the wider Fold design has become a more important product for the company.

A Different Form Factor for the Fold Line

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be Samsung’s first foldable with a wide, passport-like design. This approach would differ from the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which is said to retain the more familiar book-style foldable format.

According to the report, the Fold 8 may feature a 5.5-inch cover display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Its inner AMOLED display is said to measure 7.6 inches and use a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded.

Both displays are rumored to support refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The wider screen proportions could be a key reason Samsung is assigning a larger production target to this model.

Production Targets Across Three Models

ET News, as cited by Gadgets360, reported different production plans for Samsung’s three expected foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 leads the reported allocation by a clear margin.

ModelReported Production TargetProduct Format
Galaxy Z Fold 82.8 million unitsWide passport-style foldable
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra2 million unitsBook-style foldable
Galaxy Z Flip 81.5 million unitsClamshell foldable

The Fold 8 target is 800,000 units higher than the reported target for the Fold 8 Ultra. It is also 1.3 million units above the planned volume for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Combined, the three individual targets would total about 6.3 million units. The same report, however, estimates Samsung’s overall foldable production this year at roughly 5.5 million to 6 million units.

Price and Camera Differences

Despite receiving the largest production target, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to sit below the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in pricing. No specific prices for either device were provided.

The two models are also expected to differ in their rear camera systems. The Fold 8 may have two rear cameras, while the Fold 8 Ultra is expected to feature a three-camera setup.

That distinction would allow Samsung to separate the devices by design, price position, and camera hardware. The Ultra model would remain the more fully equipped option, while the Fold 8 could appeal through its wider format.

Launch Event and Foldable Sales Context

Samsung has announced that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in London on July 22. The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. BST, or 6:30 p.m. WIB.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are expected to be introduced at the event. Samsung is also expected to show the Galaxy Watch 9 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has reportedly shipped around 5 million to 6 million units annually. Shipments last year were said to have reached 6 million units, supported by strong sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The revised distribution plan indicates that Samsung is maintaining a substantial foldable business while changing the balance between models. The larger commitment to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will make its wider design a central point of interest ahead of the launch.
