Redmi Note 17 may arrive in India with an 8,000mAh battery, according to a new leak. That would give the Indian model 300mAh more capacity than the 7,700mAh battery used in the China version.
The larger battery could make India’s version a notably different device rather than a direct regional copy. Xiaomi has not confirmed the handset, its battery capacity, or its launch plans for India.
Launch Dates Remain Unconfirmed
Tipster Abhishek Yadav said in an X post dated July 20, 2026 that the Redmi Note 17 would be introduced in India on August 6, 2026. The first sale is reportedly planned for August 11, 2026.
Those dates remain unconfirmed by Xiaomi, which owns the Redmi sub-brand. Gadgets360 reported that the information aligns with earlier indications of an early-August launch in India.
Until Xiaomi issues an official announcement, both the schedule and the final specifications should be treated as tentative. The reported battery capacity is therefore not yet a confirmed product detail.
A Different Battery, Several Open Questions
The leak also points to an OLED display for the Indian Redmi Note 17. Its display size and refresh rate have not been disclosed for that market.
That leaves open whether the Indian model will retain the display specifications of the China version. The China device uses a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of up to 3,200 nits.

For imaging, the Indian version is said to feature a 50MP Light Fusion 400 main camera. The sensor is claimed to improve low-light photography compared with its predecessor.
An 8MP front camera is also mentioned for selfies and video calls. No details have emerged on extra rear cameras or camera software features for the Indian variant.
China Model Offers a Performance Reference
The Redmi Note 17 sold in China is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultra chipset. It is offered with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.
It also runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 and supports 45W wired charging. It remains unclear whether Xiaomi will use the same processor, memory options, software, and charging capability in India.
The China model uses a 50MP Sony LYT-600 main camera with optical image stabilisation, alongside a 2MP depth sensor. This arrangement differs from the camera hardware named in the India leak.
A larger 8,000mAh battery would be the clearest reported distinction between the two versions. Official details expected closer to the reported launch date should clarify whether the Indian Redmi Note 17 also receives other hardware changes.
