Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 May Make Its Outer Screen Useful Without Opening the Phone

Samsung’s next clamshell foldable may place much more emphasis on what users can do without unfolding it. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is rumored to feature a 4.1-inch cover screen capable of running more apps without additional setup through Good Lock.

That could allow users to reply to messages, open navigation, use the camera, and access selected apps while the device remains closed. The feature may become a significant distinction for the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip7.

Samsung has not confirmed the device or its specifications. The information currently available remains based on leaks, including a reported European retailer listing.

Expected Price and Configurations

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to start at 1,299 euro for a model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. A 12 GB and 512 GB version is rumored to cost 1,499 euro.

Display, Battery, and Processing Hardware

The main display is rumored to be a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The outer display is expected to measure 4.1 inches.

Samsung is reportedly preparing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset for the device. The chip is expected to deliver improved performance and power efficiency over the previous generation.

New Hinge and Camera Setup

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to retain the compact clamshell form factor. Its dimensions are rumored to remain close to its predecessor, while its materials and body construction may receive upgrades.

A new-generation hinge is also said to be in development. It may provide a smoother opening and closing mechanism while helping reduce the visibility of the crease on the main screen.

The rear camera system is rumored to include a 50 MP main camera and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. The main sensor may offer 2x optical-quality zoom through sensor cropping.

A 10 MP selfie camera is expected to sit in a hole-punch cutout on the main display. Details on additional camera functions have not yet been reported.

One UI 9 and AI Access on the Cover Screen

The foldable is predicted to run One UI 9 based on Android 16. The software is expected to expand Galaxy AI integration across Samsung’s foldable devices.

Some AI features may be accessible directly from the cover screen. Improvements for multitasking, photography, translation, and personalization based on user habits are also rumored.

Water and dust resistance are reportedly among Samsung’s priorities for the device. However, its protection level and IP certification remain unknown.

Possible Launch Date and Colors
