Apple has not confirmed a foldable iPhone, but code found in the iOS 27 beta may offer a significant clue about its internal design. The software includes Battery Health references to multiple internal batteries in an unidentified iPhone model.
That detail matters because current-generation iPhones are reported to use a single internal battery. A dual-battery arrangement would be consistent with the physical constraints of a foldable device, whose internal space is divided by a hinge.
Macworld identified code strings using the plural term “batteries” in the Battery Health section. One message reads, “The batteries in this iPhone are performing as expected.”
Another message states that “the health of the batteries in this iPhone has significantly degraded.” Gadgets360 reported that the warning may appear when the battery health of the rumored iPhone Ultra falls below 80 percent.
A Different Battery Health System
The code is also said to cover a situation in which one of the batteries is not a genuine Apple component. This suggests Apple may be preparing battery-health management that can assess more than one power cell within the same device.
