A Different Market Position in India
The China model starts at CNY 1,299 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Indian base variant is also expected to offer 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but at a reported price above Rs. 30,000.
That reported pricing would place the handset in a notably different position from its Chinese counterpart. Xiaomi has not explained whether the Indian version will include changes that could account for the difference.

The device is reportedly scheduled to debut in India on August 6, with sales said to begin on August 11. Neither date has been officially announced by Xiaomi.

Tipster Yogesh Brar said in an X post that the Indian handset may run HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The same leak points to LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.
Gadgets 360 reported that the phone could receive four years of operating system updates and five years of security updates. Xiaomi has not confirmed the software policy or the hardware components for the Indian model.
Redmi Note 17 launched in China on July 14 as the successor to Redmi Note 15. Earlier reports have suggested that the India model may share the Chinese version’s specifications and features.
If that proves accurate, the phone could be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset. It could also retain the camera arrangement used by the China version.
China Specifications Offer an Early Guide
The Chinese Redmi Note 17 has a 50MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. Its most notable listed component is an 8,000mAh battery.
There is no confirmation that the Indian unit will keep the same battery capacity. The same uncertainty applies to the chipset and cameras, even though they have been described as potentially similar.
