Huawei has officially launched the Mate 80 series in China, marking a significant leap in display, performance, camera, and design technology. The lineup includes four models: Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and the premium Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design.
The Mate 80 Pro Max stands out with its 6.9-inch OLED LTPO dual-layer screen. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach a peak brightness of 8,000 nits, placing it among the brightest displays in the smartphone industry today.
Huawei powers the Pro Max with the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and internal storage options up to 1TB. The device runs on HarmonyOS 6, which introduces a refreshed interface and the latest AI optimizations.
The camera system on the Mate 80 Pro Max is impressive, featuring four rear sensors enhanced by the second-generation Red Maple imaging chipset. It includes a 50MP main camera with variable aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS), a 40MP ultra-wide lens, a 50MP macro telephoto with OIS, and a 50MP periscope lens that offers 6.2x optical zoom.

The Mate 80 Pro Max is equipped with a 6,000 mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. Other notable features include IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance, Wi-Fi 6 dual-band, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, satellite communication, USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, stereo speakers, and an infrared sensor.
Despite packing high-end specs, the phone measures 8.25mm thick and weighs 239 grams, balancing performance and portability. Pricing in China starts at 7,999 yuan (approximately $1,130) for the 16GB/512GB model and goes up to 8,999 yuan (about $1,270) for the 16GB/1TB variant.
Huawei also unveiled the ultra-premium Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design edition, which sports a titanium frame and third-generation Kunlun Glass for enhanced durability against impacts and scratches. It shares the Pro Max’s core hardware but upgrades RAM to 20GB.
This model maintains the same thickness but weighs slightly more at 249 grams. Color options include Hibiscus Purple, Jet Black, and Pure White. The 20GB/512GB version is priced at 11,999 yuan ($1,700), while the 20GB/1TB option costs 12,999 yuan (around $1,840).
