iPhone 18 Pro May Keep Its Large Camera Plateau, Smaller Dynamic Island Under Test

Apple’s next Pro model does not appear headed for a dramatic redesign. The latest leak points to a more cautious direction for the iPhone 18 Pro, with the rear side still centered on a large camera plateau and the front possibly getting a smaller Dynamic Island.

The information comes from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, who is said to be drawing on supply chain sources. Based on that report, Apple seems more interested in refining visible details than changing the phone’s overall identity.

A familiar Pro design may remain in place

The large rear camera area is one of the most recognizable parts of the Pro line, and the leak suggests Apple is not ready to abandon it. That means the iPhone 18 Pro could continue using the same broad design language that has defined recent Pro models.

No major body-shape overhaul is mentioned in the report. Instead, the device is more likely to receive smaller visual adjustments that keep the phone recognizable while still making it feel updated.

That approach fits Apple’s usual design cycle. Major changes do not tend to arrive with every generation, which is why the iPhone 18 Pro is being viewed more as an incremental update than a full reset.

Color may be one of the easiest ways to signal change

Alongside the familiar body shape, Apple is also rumored to be considering a new red color option. The leak does not present this as a final decision, but it does suggest Apple may use color as one of the lightest ways to differentiate the device.

A move like that would match Apple’s tendency to preserve core design elements while still offering something fresh. For long-time users, it keeps the lineup familiar, while still giving the next Pro model a clearer visual identity.

That kind of strategy also lowers the risk of a design shift that feels too abrupt. Instead of changing the phone from the ground up, Apple can make the new generation stand out through subtle updates that remain easy to recognize.

The front side may be where the most noticeable refinements appear

The most interesting report concerns the Dynamic Island. Apple is said to be conducting A/B testing on a smaller version of the feature, which suggests multiple design options may be under evaluation.

A/B testing indicates that the final version has not necessarily been locked in. Even so, the detail is important because it points to an effort to reduce the black area at the top of the screen.

This also renews speculation about whether more components could eventually move under the display. While that idea has shifted over time, the latest leak brings attention back to a smaller Dynamic Island as the most immediate possibility.

Smaller does not mean less functional

If Apple does reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, the change would not necessarily remove its role. The main goal appears to be a cleaner front display, not a loss of existing functions.

That could matter most for people who watch videos or play games on the phone. A more compact cutout can create a wider-looking viewing area and make the screen feel less interrupted.

The report also suggests Face ID would not need to be affected. As long as the security system and facial sensors continue to work normally, notifications, music controls, and activity tracking are expected to remain part of the experience.

For now, the iPhone 18 Pro looks set to follow a gradual path rather than a bold redesign. The rear camera plateau may stay large, while the front could become a little cleaner if Apple moves ahead with a smaller Dynamic Island.
