Huawei has expanded its foldable lineup with the Pura X Max, a horizontal foldable built around a 7.7-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch cover screen. The device is positioned to stand out in a market where thinness, large screens, and everyday usability are becoming increasingly important, while also being framed as a rival to the expected iPhone Fold.
What makes the Pura X Max different is the way Huawei keeps the experience consistent on both sides of the device. Both displays use a wide 2:1-like format, so the transition from the outer panel to the inner panel feels less abrupt and more natural for reading and navigation.
A wide foldable approach focused on daily use
Huawei is clearly targeting users who want a foldable that feels practical rather than experimental. The company says the wide foldable concept is designed to make reading and navigation more comfortable, especially because the screen behavior stays familiar whether the device is open or closed.
The cover display uses an LTPO OLED panel with adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. On the inside, the LTPO OLED panel delivers a 2584 x 1828 pixel resolution, 3,000 nits peak brightness, 1440Hz PWM dimming, and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate.
Flagship hardware with Kirin 9030 Pro
Under the hood, the Pura X Max runs on the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. Huawei says the chip supports real-time ray tracing, which places the device in a stronger position for graphics-heavy tasks and gaming.
Memory and storage options also go high-end, with RAM reaching 16GB and internal storage rising to 1TB. That combination places the Pura X Max firmly in flagship territory, especially for users who want more room for apps, files, and multitasking.
Design choices that aim to look premium
Huawei has given the Pura X Max a more geometric rear design to strengthen its visual identity. The camera module is framed with textured ceramic material, a detail that helps the device feel more premium and distinct from many other foldables on the market.
The phone is offered in five colors: Midnight Black, Zero White, Interstellar Blue, Olive Gold, and Vibrant Orange. The broader color range suggests Huawei is not relying only on specifications, but also on a more expressive design language.
Stronger hinge, tougher structure
Durability is another major focus. The Pura X Max uses a new Basalt Waterdrop Hinge that Huawei says increases screen area by 16% and improves drop resistance by 33%.
The inner display is built with three layers: UTG, carbon fiber, and a buffer layer. Huawei claims this structure improves impact resistance by 50% and pressure resistance by 20%, helping the foldable handle more demanding daily use.
The device also carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance. Its dimensions are listed at 166.5 x 120 x 5.2 mm when open and 85 x 120 x 11.2 mm when folded, with a weight of 229 grams.
Camera system built for high-end imaging
Huawei has also put imaging at the center of the Pura X Max story. The rear system includes a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture and RYYB sensor, a 50 MP periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 12.5 MP ultra-wide camera that also supports macro shooting.
The camera setup is backed by XMAGE technology and a second-generation multi-spectral color sensor. For selfies and video calls, the device includes an 8 MP front camera that works for both the inner and outer screen experience.
HarmonyOS 6.1, stylus support, and AI tools
On the software side, the Pura X Max runs HarmonyOS 6.1. Huawei has added new features such as the Born to Draw creative app and support for the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus.
The stylus includes air gestures, a dedicated AI button, and an internal microphone. Huawei is also highlighting Xiaoyi Smart Brain and Xiaoyi Companion, which integrate with third-party apps to support daily productivity.
Battery, charging, and price
Power comes from a 5,300 mAh battery, while charging support includes 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. That specification keeps the device competitive in a segment where battery life and charging speed matter as much as screen size.
In China, the Huawei Pura X Max starts at 10,999 yuan and goes up to 13,999 yuan, depending on the RAM and storage variant. Sales begin on 25 April 2026, while global availability has not been announced yet.
