Poco has expanded its M8 family to the global market with the M8s 5G, a model aimed at buyers who want an affordable phone without giving up battery life or a fast display. Positioned at the most basic level in the lineup, the device keeps the focus on long endurance, a 144 Hz screen, and entry-level pricing.
The phone also stands apart from the Poco M8 and M8 Pro by taking a lighter approach to chipset, camera, and charging speed. That positioning makes the M8s 5G the most modest member of the series, while still carrying several features that are usually associated with more expensive devices.
Large battery as the main attraction
The strongest selling point of the Poco M8s 5G is its 7,000 mAh battery. Poco says the battery can support up to 23 hours of video playback and as much as 100 hours of music listening.
For video recording, the company claims the device can last up to 10 hours, while remaining usable for around 59 minutes of calls even when only 1 percent power is left. In standby mode, the stated endurance reaches up to 7.5 hours.
Poco also says the battery is designed to handle low temperatures better through a BatteryExtender Chip and a new cell material. According to the company, the battery can still operate optimally down to minus 20 degrees Celsius, with claims of up to 12 hours of video use or 7 hours of calling in that condition.
Fast display for the entry class
On the front, the M8s 5G uses a 6.9-inch Full HD Plus display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The panel supports a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz in certain applications, which should make scrolling and menu transitions feel smoother.
Peak brightness reaches 850 nits in high brightness mode. Poco also adds TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light and flicker reduction, which is intended to make extended use more comfortable for the eyes.
Modest hardware, flexible storage
For performance, Poco relies on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 built on a 6 nm process. The chipset is paired with LPDDR4x RAM of up to 8 GB and UFS 2.2 storage of up to 256 GB.
A microSD slot is also available, supporting cards of up to 2 TB. That extra expansion option gives the phone more flexibility for users who need space for photos, videos, and everyday apps.
Camera and charging setup
The rear camera system is centered on a 50 MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, along with one additional lens that is not described in detail. On the front, the phone carries an 8 MP camera for selfies and video calls.
Charging support is set at 33 watts for fast charging, and the phone can also deliver reverse charging of up to 18 watts. That means the device can be used as a power source for other gadgets in certain situations.
Price, colors, and connectivity
Poco is offering the M8s 5G in black and white. The phone starts at US$189 for the 6 GB/128 GB version, while the top configuration with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage is priced at US$219.
The launch price is still subject to change, and the phone also includes a side fingerprint sensor, AI face unlock, IP64 protection, WiFi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, GPS, IR blaster, USB Type-C, Dolby Atmos, and Hi-Res Audio. It runs HyperOS based on Android 15, rounding out a feature set that aims to make the M8s 5G a practical entry-level option with unusually strong endurance.
