A more natural unlock experience
According to information circulating in China, Huawei is preparing Ultrasonic In-display Fingerprint technology for the Mate 90 series. The system uses 3D sound waves to read fingerprints, which places it above standard optical sensors in terms of detection method.
The key promise is consistency. Ultrasonic scanning is said to work even when fingers are sweaty or wet after washing, which can reduce failed unlock attempts in situations that often frustrate users.
Moving away from the side frame
If this change is implemented, Huawei would be stepping away from the long-used approach of placing the fingerprint reader on the side of the device. That older layout requires users to locate the side button first, while an in-display sensor feels more direct during daily use.
Huawei is also reportedly testing the best position for the sensor so it does not sit too low on the screen. Placement matters here, because a poorly positioned reader can force the thumb to move more than necessary, especially when the phone is used with one hand.
The daily-use angle is becoming more important
