iPhone Tracking Without Extra Apps, DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Adds DockKit and AI Control

For iPhone users who want faster subject tracking without extra setup, DJI’s Osmo Mobile 8P arrives with a clear advantage. Its DockKit integration lets tracking run directly from the native camera experience, while the gimbal itself is built to keep handheld video steady and easier to control.

DJI has brought the Osmo Mobile 8P to Indonesia through its partnership with Erajaya Active Lifestyle. The device is aimed at smartphone creators who want a smoother recording workflow, especially when speed, precision, and stability matter during capture.

Native tracking for iPhone users

The strongest point of the Osmo Mobile 8P is its support for Apple DockKit and ActiveTrack 8.0. For iPhone users, that means subject tracking can work through the built-in camera app without opening a third-party app just to enable automatic tracking.

ActiveTrack 8.0 sits at the center of the experience. DJI says the AI-based system is designed to keep the subject centered more responsively, including in crowded environments such as music concerts or sports events.

Remote control with a detachable accessory

DJI also includes Osmo FrameTap as a detachable remote controller. The accessory comes with a monitor screen and an intuitive joystick, giving users more freedom to steer the shot and adjust zoom from a distance.

That extra control can be useful when the gimbal is placed farther away from the user. It adds another layer of convenience for creators who want tighter framing without having to stand directly behind the device.

Extra tracking and lighting support

Beyond human subject tracking, the Osmo Mobile 8P comes with the Multifunctional Module 2 as a magnetic add-on. The module can track general objects such as cars and landmarks, extending the gimbal’s use beyond standard face or person tracking.

It also includes a fill light with eight brightness levels. That makes the device more flexible in situations where additional light is needed, especially when recording moving subjects or filming in lower-light conditions.

Stabilization built for handheld shooting

On the hardware side, the Osmo Mobile 8P uses DJI’s eighth-generation 3-axis stabilization system. The setup is intended to keep footage smooth even when the gimbal is used in more dynamic movement.

Despite the added functions, the unit weighs only 386 grams. That keeps it practical for everyday carry while preserving its role as a mobile video stabilizer.

Creative modes in DJI Mimo

The DJI Mimo app opens access to several automatic modes designed to give smartphone video a more cinematic look. These tools position the gimbal not just as a stabilizer, but also as a creative aid during shooting.

Wide-Angle mode records in the classic 2.35:1 format to create a film-like look without cropping in post-production. DynamicZoom adds a compressed-space effect through Move In and Move Out modes, while Slow Shutter is meant to capture light trails in low light or night scenes. For fast-moving action, Action Shot helps maintain smooth framing when following athletes or dancers.

Available through multiple sales channels

DJI offers the Osmo Mobile 8P in three sales configurations to suit different budget and creativity needs. The product is available online through various marketplaces, and offline through retail channels including DJI Store, Urban Republic, and Erafone.

With its DockKit integration, iPhone-native tracking, and added creative tools, the Osmo Mobile 8P reflects a broader shift in smartphone gimbals toward smarter tracking and tighter software integration. For iPhone users and mobile creators, that combination is the main reason the device stands out.
