Xiaomi May End Mix Flip Line, Shifting Its Foldable Efforts Toward A New Large Fold

Xiaomi’s foldable roadmap appears to be entering a reset, and the biggest change may be the quiet end of the Mix Flip line. Instead of continuing with a compact clamshell successor, the company is now being linked more strongly with a new horizontal foldable that could become its next main priority.

The shift was first highlighted by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, where the leaker suggested that Xiaomi may not continue the Mix Flip series at all. That implication points to a possible break in the lineup, which means a device like Mix Flip 3 may never arrive. Xiaomi has not confirmed any of this publicly.

Clamshell foldables are losing momentum

The rumor also fits a broader pattern in the foldable market. Compact clamshell phones still have an audience, but they remain a niche category with limited mass appeal.

High production costs and a value proposition that is often seen as less competitive than larger foldables have made the segment harder to sustain. As a result, several brands appear to be moving more cautiously when it comes to keeping their compact foldable lines alive.

Honor has not provided clarity on what comes after Honor V Flip 2. Vivo has also not shown a clear direction for the X Flip series, which adds to the sense that the compact foldable market is slowing down.

Oppo is in a similar position. Since the launch of the Oppo Find N3 Flip in 2023, the company has not introduced a successor, reinforcing the impression that the clamshell segment is losing steam.

Motorola, however, has taken a different path and remains more active in the category. The company has continued to strengthen its position with devices such as the Motorola Razr 70, Motorola Razr 70+, and Motorola Razr 70 Ultra.

Xiaomi appears to be betting on a larger foldable

Against that backdrop, Xiaomi is said to be shifting its attention toward a fold-style device with a horizontal design. The new model is reportedly under development and could launch around July or August.

One of the most notable details tied to the device is the reported use of Xiaomi’s own Xring O3 chipset. If accurate, that would show Xiaomi pushing its in-house chip strategy deeper into the premium foldable segment.

The final product name is still uncertain. It may still arrive as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 6, although another possibility is a new name such as Xiaomi 17 Fold.

Whatever name Xiaomi chooses, the larger foldable is expected to become the company’s main focus in the foldable category moving forward. The direction suggests that Xiaomi sees more room for growth in larger foldables than in compact clamshell models.

For now, the information remains based on leaks rather than official confirmation, but the strategic shift is becoming easier to read. Xiaomi seems to be aligning itself with the part of the foldable market that looks closest to stronger demand.
