Samsung appears to be preparing a foldable that pushes far beyond the familiar book-style format. Alongside Galaxy Z Fold 8, a new name has surfaced: Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold, a device that is said to lean much closer to a tablet-like experience.
The first clues reportedly came from pre-release One UI 9 firmware, which contained visual assets for both devices. The discovery was first noticed by the The Chipher Project community on Telegram and later reported by Android Authority, with the visuals said to align with CAD renders that had already circulated.
A wider direction for Samsung’s foldables
If the leak proves accurate, Galaxy Z Wide Fold would mark a clear break from Samsung’s more conservative foldable approach. The device is said to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it a much broader inner display than a conventional foldable phone.
That wider layout would be paired with a 7.6-inch foldable OLED main screen and a 5.4-inch cover display. When unfolded, the device is said to measure 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9 mm, which helps explain why it is being described as closer to a folding tablet than a standard smartphone.
Early hardware details point to a premium build
The leaked information also outlines a hardware package that matches Samsung’s high-end foldable ambitions. Galaxy Z Wide Fold is said to run on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and One UI 9 based on the latest Android version.
Battery details are also part of the picture. The device is said to use a dual-cell battery with a combined capacity of around 4,800mAh, while the minimum listed capacity is 4,660mAh.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks more restrained by comparison
While Galaxy Z Wide Fold sounds experimental, Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly taking a safer path. Samsung is said to be keeping much of the design DNA from Galaxy Z Fold 7, with the focus shifting toward refinement rather than reinvention.
That refinement is expected to include changes to the hinge, reduced display crease visibility, and broader improvements in material quality. The device is also said to feature slightly more rounded corners, a detail that should improve ergonomics in hand.
Possible stage for a surprise launch
Samsung has not confirmed any of these devices yet, but another leak suggests the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event may take place on 22 July 2026 in London, England. At that event, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are expected to be introduced.
Galaxy Z Wide Fold is also being mentioned as a possible surprise addition. If that happens, Samsung would be offering two very different approaches to foldables at once: one focused on careful refinement, and another aimed at a far wider, more tablet-like experience.
