Xiaomi is preparing to push its wearable audio lineup in a noticeably different direction with its first transparent clip-on earphone. The device stands out immediately because it does not follow the usual in-ear TWS formula, and instead adopts a more open-ear concept.
That approach allows users to stay aware of ambient sounds while listening to music or taking calls. It also suggests that Xiaomi wants the product to function as both an audio device and a lifestyle accessory, rather than just another pair of earbuds.
A more premium-looking transparent design
The official teaser shows a glossy finish that gives the product a more refined appearance. The speaker section uses a transparent element that becomes the most distinctive part of the overall look.
According to Gizmochina, Xiaomi describes the product as combining metal textures with a visual style inspired by vinyl records. That design direction points to a more fashion-focused identity, setting it apart from Xiaomi’s more affordable earbuds in the past.
The earphones also use a unibody construction with a reflective surface. Together, those elements create a more futuristic impression while reinforcing Xiaomi’s premium design intent.
Built for everyday wear, not just music
Open-ear clip-on designs have been gaining attention in the audio wearable market. Their appeal comes from long-wear comfort and the fact that they do not fully seal the ear canal.
That makes this type of device suitable for people who exercise, work, or commute. It keeps them connected to surrounding sounds while they listen, which is the key reason open-ear products have found a clear user base.
Xiaomi’s new model also appears to be positioned differently from its earlier OpenWear series. The newer device is framed as a smaller, more fashion-oriented interpretation of the same broader category.
Charging case details are starting to surface
More information has also emerged from the product manual, which reveals several elements of the charging case. The case is said to include a USB-C port, an indicator light, a physical button, and an internal speaker.
That extra speaker has led to speculation that the case may support location tracking or help users find the device. Xiaomi has not provided an official explanation for that component.
The earbuds themselves are expected to support touch gestures at multiple points on the frame. The control area reportedly includes the bridge of the clip-on design, which would allow users to manage music, answer calls, and adjust volume.
Technical details remain undisclosed
While the physical design is starting to come into view, the technical specifications are still limited. Xiaomi has not announced battery capacity, driver size, supported codecs, or the Bluetooth version.
Official pricing for either the domestic or global market has also not been revealed. For now, the available information centers mainly on the design direction and the basic functions the device is expected to offer.
Current reports suggest the clip-on earphone could be unveiled at the end of May 2026 in China. It is expected to debut alongside the Xiaomi 17 Max and Smart Band 10 Pro.
If launched as expected, the new earphone would enter a crowded open-ear segment already occupied by brands such as Bose, Shokz, Huawei, and Sony. Xiaomi’s arrival could make the competition in this category even tighter.
