Bárbara de Regil has made a personal choice that now shapes both her family life and her career. She says she decided not to have more children because she wanted to protect her time and focus on acting, directing, and hosting.
“Decidí ya no tener más hijos porque me iban a quitar tiempo, ya tengo a Mar y lo que quiero es trabajar, quiero actuar, dirigir, conducir, quiero todo,” de Regil said. Her daughter Mar remains at the center of her family life, but her professional goals are clearly the priority.
A Career Built on Taking Risks
That decision helps explain why de Regil keeps taking on roles that move beyond her most familiar image. One of the clearest examples is Rosario Tijeras, the character she brings back in its fifth season on Netflix.
She said she once considered stepping away from the role to avoid being typecast, but later chose to keep expanding her range through comedy, drama, and period productions. She pointed to projects such as Loca por el trabajo, El roomie, Mujeres asesinas, and Carlota as proof that she can do more than one kind of performance.
Rosario Tijeras Returns With a Personal Twist
In the new season, Rosario faces an especially difficult conflict: her enemy is the person she loves most in the world, her daughter Rubí, played by Samantha Acuña. At the same time, she works with “El Ángel,” played by Sebastián Martínez, on a plan to regain power inside the mafia.
De Regil also participates as a producer in seasons four and five, which gives her room to suggest changes in the script. She said her long connection to the character helps her understand what the audience expects from Rosario Tijeras.
Action That Demands More Each Time
The role has also pushed her physically. For this season, she trained in Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu to make the action scenes feel more realistic.
She said she performs her own action scenes because viewers deserve to see Rosario fighting on screen. “Yo hago las escenas de acción porque creo que el público merece ver a Rosario peleando, porque son muy fanáticos de ella y quiero llenar sus expectativas… además me encanta ser como un Batman mexicano,” she said.
For de Regil, the message is simple: family matters, but her career ambitions now lead the way. That balance is shaping both the future she wants and the version of Rosario Tijeras audiences will see next.
