New Yorkers now have a rare shot at getting into the Knicks’ post-parade ceremony at City Hall Plaza, with 600 tickets being opened to the public through a lottery.

The move stands out because seats for post-parade ceremonies usually go to team guests and city VIPs. This time, the Mamdani administration is setting aside a portion for the general public.

How the lottery works

The ticket lottery is open until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Knicks.com/CeremonySweeps. Winners will be notified after the lottery closes, and 300 winners will be selected in all.

Each winner will receive two tickets, making the total public allocation 600 tickets for the ceremony. According to abc7ny.com, the public giveaway is meant to make the celebration more accessible after the team’s championship run.

Why the public ticket pool matters

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the championship belonged to the city after watch parties filled parks and celebrations spilled into streets across New York. In his words, the Knicks brought together people from every borough and every walk of life.

He also said the tickets are being made free and accessible so working-class people have a chance to be part of the historic moment and celebrate the team that brought a championship home.

During the parade, the general public is usually limited to watching from the route and viewing the ceremony on big screens. The City Hall Plaza lottery gives fans a different kind of access, even if only for a small slice of the event.
