Alicia Keys is set to help turn the Knicks’ championship celebration into a City Hall showcase on Thursday. The singer and pianist will perform after the team’s victory parade, according to Madison Square Garden and Knicks owner James Dolan.
The performance will include “Empire State of Mind,” the 2009 hit Keys recorded with Jay-Z. Knicks fans were already singing the track after New York clinched the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs in five games, with the lyrics’ nod to the Knicks and Nets adding to the moment.
What the parade will look like
The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET near Bowling Green and move along Broadway to City Hall. A ceremony is planned there for noon, giving the team and fans a final gathering point after the procession.
There has been no indication whether Jay-Z will join Keys for the performance. ESPN reported the planned appearance as part of the wider celebration surrounding the Knicks’ title run.
