A man in Castro Urdiales is facing six years in prison after allegedly breaking into a chalet, taking keys from inside the property, and fleeing in the owners’ car. Prosecutors say the case involves a forced-entry robbery in an inhabited home and an attempted escape that ended in a crash.
The allegation centers on a late-night intrusion into a private finca where the accused is said to have climbed a two-meter metal perimeter fence to get inside. According to cadenaser.com, he acted with the intention of obtaining an unlawful benefit.
How the break-in allegedly unfolded
Once inside the grounds, he is accused of taking the house key from inside an open van parked on the property. He then entered the home, opened a drawer in the hallway, and took another set of keys that included the key to a car.
When the homeowner caught him, he allegedly used the car key and drove off in the vehicle parked on the property. The car was later left as a total loss after the chase ended in a collision on the highway.

The prosecution also says the offense should be treated as aggravated by repeat offending, since the defendant has previously been convicted of robberies. On that basis, the prosecutor is seeking the six-year prison term.
The case is scheduled for trial at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, before Section One of the Cantabria Provincial Court, according to the regional High Court of Justice. The hearing will test the prosecution’s claim that the theft, flight, and crash formed part of a single burglary episode.
