Angel Reese Nears Suspension Again, Storm Game Puts Her One Tech Away

Angel Reese is now one technical foul away from a mandatory suspension after picking up her seventh of the 2026 season against the Seattle Storm. The Atlanta Dream forward received the technical in the second quarter of the July 9 game, putting her on the brink under WNBA rules.

Under the WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, a player is suspended for one game after reaching eight technical fouls in a season. After that, additional suspensions come every two technical fouls, which means Reese would face another absence at No. 10, No. 12, and so on.

Why the next technical matters

Situation Reese’s Count Result
Current technical fouls 7 One away from suspension
At 8 technical fouls 8 Mandatory one-game suspension
After serving suspension 10, 12, and beyond Additional one-game suspensions every two technicals

The Dream’s meeting with the Storm was the 22nd game of their season, which marks the halfway point of their regular season. If Reese were to keep drawing technicals at the same pace, she would finish the regular season with 16.

That scenario would leave her with five missed games because of technical foul-related suspensions. But the outcome is still hypothetical, and she could still finish the season without earning another technical after the one in Seattle.

Reese has dealt with this before

This would not be the first time Reese has faced a suspension tied to technical fouls. She was suspended for one game during her 2025 campaign with the Chicago Sky after reaching eight technical fouls.

She was also the only WNBA player last season to finish with more than six technical fouls, which made her the only one suspended for that reason.

Reese’s style is part of what has made her a major WNBA draw. Her emotion and competitive fire have helped fuel her rise into a generational rebounder and perennial All-Star.

At the same time, that edge can work against her when it spills over toward officials, and the Dream need her available as they try to recover from a five-game losing streak entering Thursday.

Reese helped make the point herself with her play against Seattle, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the Dream’s win over the Storm.
