Patten and Heliovaara Survive Another Tie-Break Test, Return to Wimbledon Final

Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara are back in the Wimbledon men’s doubles final, and they did it the hard way again. The British-Finnish pair beat Aleksandar Kovacevic and Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets, with both sets decided by tie-breaks.

The world number ones have now won six of the seven tie-breaks they have played this fortnight. That run has included three 10-point match tie-breaks in their previous rounds, underlining how close every step of their latest title push has been.

Another Final, Another Tight Path

Patten and Heliovaara lifted the Wimbledon title in 2024 and are now chasing a second crown at the All England Club. Having joined forces only in 2024, they are also aiming for their third Grand Slam title in as many years after winning the Australian Open in 2025.

Their next test comes against Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Croatia’s Mate Pavic in Saturday’s final. Arevalo and Pavic beat them in the Queen’s Club final last month, and they also eliminated Britain’s defending champions Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool on Wednesday.

Patten told BBC TV that the moment brought “Big emotions of joy, relief, happiness, all of those things.” He added that the pair were “a bit tired” but “over the moon” after securing another chance to play for the title.

He also said he expects nerves to be part of the occasion on Centre Court, calling Wimbledon final day “a unique feeling” and saying, “The butterflies will definitely be there.”

With their previous meetings offering a split of sharp contrasts, Saturday’s final now gives Patten and Heliovaara a chance to turn a recent defeat into another Wimbledon triumph.
