A severe thunderstorm tore away much of the roof at The Church Triumphant in Newark on July 21, scattering some of the debris into the street. The damage at the church on Madison Avenue came as more than 15,000 power outages were reported across Licking County.
No injuries or other major damage had been reported as of 5 p.m., despite the storm’s strong winds and widespread utility impacts. The Licking County Emergency Management Agency was continuing to check the area for additional storm-related damage.

Licking County EMA Director Sean Grady said the storm caused the church roof damage and the downed wires. According to www.newarkadvocate.com, emergency officials were still determining whether the state would require formal damage assessments.
Flooding was not a primary concern
The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a flash flood warning for the southern part of Licking County until 7 p.m. on July 21. Grady said the emergency agency did not have concerns about flooding from the storm.
Residents who experienced storm damage were asked to report it through the Licking County Emergency Management Agency website. The agency’s review of storm impacts was ongoing.
