A massive overnight fire has completely destroyed the farm market at Bauman’s Farm Market & Greenhouses in Penfield, New York. The Bauman family said everyone was safe and that most of the property’s greenhouses appear to be unharmed.
Emergency crews were called shortly after 2 a.m. for a barn fire near the intersection of Five Mile Line Road and Plank Road. The cause of the fire has not been released.
In a social media statement, the Bauman family described the destruction as a “heartbreaking loss.” The family said it is assessing what comes next and will share updates when it can.
“Our hearts are heavy, but we are incredibly grateful for what matters most; everyone is safe,” the family wrote. It also thanked firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement, and other first responders for working through the night.
According to 13wham.com, the fire involved the site’s main building. The family said it believes most of the greenhouses were not damaged.

The intersection of Five Mile Line Road and Plank Road was closed during the response. Plank Road has since reopened in both directions, while the closure on Five Mile Line Road remains in place between Plank Road and Seawatch Trail.
The family also acknowledged support from the surrounding communities of Webster, West Webster, Penfield, Brighton, and Irondequoit. “They mean more to our family than words can express,” the statement said of the prayers and messages received.
Officials had not provided a cause for the Penfield fire at the time of the report. The Bauman family said it is taking the recovery process one step at a time.
