Larry David’s unfamiliarity with sugary breakfast cereal became an unexpected hurdle during the season premiere of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The comedian appeared alongside his daughter, Cazzie David, when a question about Lucky Charms left him visibly confused.
Jimmy Kimmel asked the pair which cereal uses the term “marbits,” short for marshmallow bits, to describe its colorful edible pieces. The choices were Raisin Bran, Cap’n Crunch, Cookie Crisp, and Lucky Charms.
Cazzie David immediately named Lucky Charms, while her father responded with a surprised, “What?” She then explained that the cereal contains marshmallows, prompting Larry David to ask, “It does?”
A Cereal Question Catches Larry David Off Guard
The exchange became more amusing when Cazzie asked whether he did not know about cereals. Larry David said he had believed Lucky Charms were simply “these colored fruit things.”
“Those are marshmallows,” Cazzie replied, before Larry David asked if she was positive. Her response to Kimmel was equally blunt: “Thank God I’m here. I thought I was gonna be doing nothing.”
Larry David then admitted that he had never eaten Lucky Charms, Cookie Crisp, or Cap’n Crunch. He offered one defense for his cereal knowledge: “I’ve had Raisin Bran.”
Kimmel Sees an Explanation for David’s Mood
Kimmel joked that David’s lack of experience with sugary cereals “explains a lot.” The host added, “No wonder you’re so happy,” drawing on David’s famously irritable comic persona.
According to www.yahoo.com, David had been a sought-after guest for the celebrity edition of the game show after reportedly turning down an offer to appear last season. His appearance with Cazzie David now puts their father-daughter dynamic at the center of the season opener.
