Drivers in Tucson should prepare for numerous road closures this Saturday because of the annual El Tour cycling event. The closures will affect key streets and highway ramps, creating impacts across the city from morning to late afternoon.
Some road closures begin early Friday morning, such as westbound and eastbound Cushing Street between Stone and El Paso, which will close from 6:00 am Friday until 8:00 pm Saturday. On race day, several major routes, including portions of 4th, 6th, and 15th Avenues, will close starting as early as 4:00 am and reopen by mid-afternoon.

Several ramp closures on I-10 and I-19 interchanges will also occur. For example, the I-10 Westbound On-Ramp at Houghton Interchange will close from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, with detours in place for northbound Houghton Road traffic. The I-19 Northbound and Southbound Off-Ramps at Continental Interchange will close from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Expected Road Delays
Delays are anticipated at major intersections including Escalante and Kolb, Camino Seco and Irvington, Kolb and Valencia, and Valencia and Houghton throughout the event hours. Some delays may last into the mid-afternoon, particularly on routes used by the longer 102-mile and 63-mile race courses.
Officials recommend that travelers heading to Tucson International Airport use I-10 in either direction, exit at Kino South, then take Benson Highway to Tucson Boulevard for the smoothest route on event day.
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and expect traffic flags and detours. Staying informed will help reduce inconvenience during El Tour’s coverage of Tucson’s streets this Saturday.
