Noah Schnapp and Millie Bobby Brown, known for their roles as Will Byers and Eleven in Stranger Things, recently shared insights on the digital de-aging technology used in the series. The visual effects provided a way to portray younger versions of their characters in flashback scenes, blending CGI with younger body doubles.

In the opening minutes of Season 5, viewers see Noah Schnapp’s de-aged face on child actor Luke Kokotek, who plays 11-year-old Will trapped in the Upside Down. Lola VFX was responsible for the complex visual effects that involved precise face and hair placement, creating a believable younger Will Byers.

Millie Bobby Brown underwent a similar process in key flashback scenes during Season 4. Schnapp revealed he sought Brown’s guidance on working with younger actors for these sequences. He said the experience was “fun” and involved stepping into a director’s role to help the younger actor replicate his original portrayal.

Brown described the process as “very interesting” and noted how it made her reflect on how she first approached Eleven’s character. She recalled directing her younger stand-in and described learning about her early acting choices as insightful.
