Nebraska finds itself once again uncertain about the future of starting quarterback Dylan Raiola. After informal talks last offseason, the Huskers expect Raiola to seriously consider entering the transfer portal this offseason, sources reveal to CBS Sports.
Raiola, a former five-star recruit and Nebraska’s highest-paid player at about $3.5 million, has not played since breaking his fibula on November 1. His younger brother, Dayton Raiola, recently decommitted from Nebraska’s 2026 recruiting class, fueling speculation about Dylan’s intentions.
Financial Factors and Playing Prospects
Nebraska is planning to increase its total NIL and revenue-share payouts next season to retain key players. Despite this, sources suggest Raiola’s decision would likely hinge on seeking a fresh start rather than financial incentives. He aims to prepare for a possible College Football Playoff appearance and the NFL Draft in what could be his final collegiate year.
In the 2025 season, Raiola recorded 2,000 passing yards with 18 touchdowns against six interceptions over nearly ten games. His injury is not expected to delay his 2026 season debut, paralleling cases like Carson Beck’s high-value transfer despite an elbow injury.
Team Dynamics and Quarterback Room Outlook
Coach Matt Rhule held a candid conversation with Raiola last preseason, resulting in Raiola’s choice to remain with Nebraska at that time. The Huskers responded by aggressively bolstering their roster through the transfer portal, adding several four-star recruits at critical positions.
