LeBron James and Luka Doncic Out as Lakers Face Celtics in High-Stakes NBA Matchup

LeBron James will miss the upcoming Los Angeles Lakers game against the Boston Celtics due to multiple injuries. The team announced that James is sidelined by sciatica and arthritis in his left foot.

James, nearing 41 years old, has struggled this season with these issues, which already caused him to miss the first 14 games. Despite this, he played a season-high 36 minutes in the Lakers’ recent win over Toronto. He contributed a key assist to Rui Hachimura for the game-winning shot at the buzzer.

However, James scored only 8 points in that game, ending his remarkable streak of 1,297 consecutive games scoring at least 10 points. Prior to that, he also sat out both games of a back-to-back series last week to manage his health.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick said the team aims to gradually increase James’ minutes to have him available for future back-to-back games. This cautious approach reflects the veteran’s physical challenges this season.

In addition to James, the Lakers will also be without Luka Doncic for personal reasons. Guard Marcus Smart is ruled out with a back injury. These absences leave the Lakers shorthanded as they face the Celtics in Boston.

Injury Status Summary for Lakers vs Celtics:

  1. LeBron James – Out (sciatica, left foot arthritis)
  2. Luka Doncic – Out (personal reasons)
  3. Marcus Smart – Out (back injury)

The combined losses of two star players and a key guard present a significant challenge for the Lakers. The team will need contributions from their supporting roster to compete effectively against Boston on the road.
