Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle Scheduled for a Fresh New Coat, Dates Revealed

Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle Scheduled for Repainting in January

Walt Disney World has confirmed that Cinderella Castle’s repainting will begin in January of next year. This iconic centerpiece of the Magic Kingdom Park will undergo a refreshed color update to enhance its classic look.

Refurbishment Process and Guest Experience

The repainting starts by draining the moat around the Castle. High-reaching lifts will be installed but will be lowered and moved out of sight by noon daily, allowing guests to enjoy unobstructed photos in the afternoons.

From January 28 onward, a modified version of the “Let The Magic Begin” welcome show will run. Popular performances like Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire and Happily Ever After will continue with minor adjustments during the repainting period.

New Color Palette and Design Inspiration

Disney Imagineers revealed earlier this year during the Destination D23 fan event that the castle’s new color scheme includes grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold. These colors are inspired by the classic and original look of Cinderella Castle, reflecting timeless architectural elegance.

A Disney representative emphasized that the new palette intends to evoke the Florida sunshine and ensure the castle remains picture-perfect in any season. The paint used will undergo rigorous UV and weather testing to maintain durability against sun exposure and weather conditions.

Historic Significance and Past Changes

Since its opening in October 1971, Cinderella Castle has been a defining symbol of Walt Disney World. The last major color update occurred in 2020, featuring a rose pink hue, darker blue roofs, and gold accents to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 1950 animated film Cinderella.

Other Disney Castles Globally

Cinderella Castle is also a prominent feature at Tokyo Disneyland. Additional castles at Disney parks worldwide include Sleeping Beauty Castle (California), Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Paris), Castle of Magical Dreams (Hong Kong), and Enchanted Storybook Castle (Shanghai).

As Walt Disney World refreshes the castle’s appearance, guests are encouraged to plan visits later in the day to capture the best photos. The refreshed colors are expected to debut later in the year, continuing the legacy of this magical landmark.
