Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Arrested, Charged with Murder of Current Wife After Domestic Incident

Former first lady Jill Biden’s ex-husband, William Stevenson, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of his current wife, Linda Stevenson. The arrest followed an extensive investigation by New Castle County police in Delaware.

Officers responded to a domestic dispute call on December 28 at a Wilmington-area residence, where Linda Stevenson was found unresponsive in the living room. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, she died at the scene. Her body was subsequently sent to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

William Stevenson, aged 77, was taken into custody on Monday and is now held at Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post a $500,000 cash bail. Authorities have not released specific details regarding the cause of death, pending further investigation and official findings.

The grand jury indictment charging Stevenson with first-degree murder is the result of a weekslong inquiry undertaken by local law enforcement. Police have not disclosed whether Stevenson has retained legal representation at this time.

William Stevenson was previously married to Jill Biden, the current first lady. The couple tied the knot in February 1970, when Jill Biden was an 18-year-old University of Delaware student. Their marriage lasted for five years, ending in divorce in May 1975 after Jill met Joe Biden, then a Delaware senator.

During their marriage, Stevenson established The Stone Balloon Club, a renowned college bar near the University of Delaware that hosted famous musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, and The Allman Brothers Band over several decades. Jill Biden attempted to retain partial ownership of the establishment but was unsuccessful.

New Castle County police have remained tight-lipped about ongoing details of the case. Representatives for both Jill Biden and former President Joe Biden have not issued comments in response to media inquiries regarding Stevenson’s arrest and charges.
