Texas Tech dominated Colorado with a commanding 78-44 victory on Wednesday night in Lubbock. Donovan Atwell led the offensive charge, scoring 20 points and sinking six three-pointers, setting the tone early in the game.
JT Toppin delivered a standout performance, grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds and adding 16 points. This game marked Toppin’s 46th career double-double, further cementing his reputation as one of the Big 12’s top rebounders, averaging 10.9 boards per game this season.
Christian Anderson contributed significantly, recording 14 points alongside seven assists. Jaylen Petty also added 12 points for Texas Tech, helping the Red Raiders (18-6, 8-3) maintain control throughout the contest.
Colorado struggled offensively, managing only 44 points, their lowest since scoring 43 in January 2022. The Buffaloes shot a dismal 29.1% from the field and 24% from beyond the arc. Isaiah Johnson was Colorado’s top scorer with 13 points, while Ian Inman chipped in 12.
The game’s momentum shifted quickly after Colorado’s initial 2-0 lead, courtesy of Barrington Hargress. Atwell’s early three-pointer put Texas Tech ahead, and they extended the lead to 39-22 by halftime. The Red Raiders then opened the second half scoring with an eight-point run, preserving at least a 20-point advantage for the remainder of the game.
Toppin’s performance ranks among the best in college basketball. Only Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg has accumulated more career double-doubles among active players, earning his 51st on the same night.
This outcome represents a stark contrast to the teams’ previous meeting on January 10, when Texas Tech narrowly held on for a 73-71 win in Boulder. Colorado, once an 8-0 starter, has now lost eight of its last ten games, signaling challenges as the season progresses.
Upcoming schedules have Colorado visiting No. 22 BYU on Saturday, while Texas Tech faces a tough test against No. 1 Arizona, which recently suffered its first defeat to No. 9 Kansas. These matchups will be critical as both teams aim to improve their conference standings.
