Justice Hill’s skill set provides more value as a pass catcher compared to Mitchell. Mitchell’s opportunities faltered since his playing time generally coincided with Henry’s absence, limiting snaps in a backfield rotation heavy with established talent.
Mitchell’s potential as a dynamic runner has been evident, yet frequent injuries have hindered his consistency. His breakout performance as an undrafted rookie in 2023 showcased his explosive ability, with an NFL-leading average of 8.4 yards per carry.
However, a late-season knee injury abruptly halted Mitchell’s momentum in 2023 and sidelined him for much of the following season. Last year, he returned to play 13 games but was inactive for several contests early on. He amassed 341 rushing yards with a 5.8 yards-per-carry average and scored one touchdown. Additionally, he contributed nine receptions for 63 yards.
In contrast, Justice Hill missed six games last season due to a neck injury. Despite fewer standout rushing plays, Hill excelled as a third-down option, demonstrating reliability in the passing game. His 42 receptions in the 2024 season ranked fourth highest on the team, underscoring his role in Baltimore’s offensive scheme.
Given the Ravens’ current roster and salary cap considerations, allowing Mitchell to enter unrestricted free agency appears to be a strategic decision. The team’s prioritization of players who contribute effectively in multiple facets underscores their direction in optimizing available resources.
