Wembanyama’s 3rd-Fastest Double-Double Since 1997, Spurs Keep Rolling

Victor Wembanyama delivered a season-high 41 points and 16 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Chicago Bulls 129-114 on Monday night at home. The performance also produced the third-fastest double-double since the NBA began tracking play-by-play stats in the 1997-98 season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Wembanyama reached 10 points and 10 rebounds in his first 8 minutes, 31 seconds on the floor. He grabbed his 10th rebound 1:55 into the second quarter, placing him behind only Boban Marjanovic and Jonas Valanciunas in the modern play-by-play era.

Wembanyama’s fast start sets the tone

The Spurs used Wembanyama’s early burst to seize control after Chicago opened with an uncontested dunk from Matas Buzelis and a brief 5-2 lead. San Antonio answered with a 20-13 run, and the game shifted quickly once Wembanyama started to overwhelm the Bulls on both ends.

He finished 17 of 27 from the field and made 3 of 6 from 3-point range. The strong scoring night marked his 14th game of at least 30 points this season, showing how consistently he has carried the Spurs’ offense.

Spurs extend winning streak to nine

San Antonio won its ninth consecutive game and built a lead as large as 29 points in the third quarter. Six Spurs scored in double figures, and Stephon Castle added 21 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds in a balanced team effort.

The result continued a strong stretch for San Antonio, which has looked more composed offensively and more disruptive defensively during the streak. Wembanyama’s production has remained the central reason, but the supporting cast has also given the team more scoring depth and pace.

Chicago gets strong scoring but cannot slow San Antonio

Tre Jones led Chicago with 23 points in his first game back in San Antonio since being traded to the Bulls in the deal that brought De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs. Leonard Miller scored 21 points and Collin Sexton added 20, but Chicago dropped its fourth straight game.

The Bulls also played under unusual circumstances after waiving Jaden Ivey for conduct detrimental to the team earlier in the day. He did not travel with the club on its four-game road trip, though the move did not affect Chicago’s early energy against San Antonio.

Fastest double-doubles since 1997-98, per Elias Sports Bureau

  1. Boban Marjanovic — 8:13
  2. Jonas Valanciunas — 8:08
  3. Victor Wembanyama — 8:31

Wembanyama capped his night with a driving one-handed dunk in the fourth quarter, finishing with another performance that underlined his rapid rise as one of the NBA’s most efficient young stars. His size, skill, and early-game dominance again made the difference as the Spurs kept their winning streak alive and added another standout moment to his breakout season.
