Tanner Usrey Faces Felony Fentanyl Charge After DWI Arrest, Rising Country Star’s Sudden Fall

Country singer Tanner Usrey has been arrested in Collin County, Texas, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and on a felony fentanyl possession charge, according to court records and the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. The 32-year-old was taken into custody on Monday and later released the same day after posting a $12,500 bond.

Authorities said Usrey faces three charges in total, including a second DWI offense and two felony drug counts. The case remains under active investigation by the McKinney Police Department.

What the charges mean under Texas law

The DWI charge is listed as a second offense, which Texas treats as a Class A misdemeanor. That offense can bring jail time, a fine, and a driver’s license suspension that may last from six months to two years.

The most serious count involves possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B, a category that includes fentanyl and fentanyl-derived substances under Texas law. Court documents indicate the amount involved was between 4 and 200 grams, which makes the allegation a second-degree felony.

A second-degree felony in Texas can carry a prison sentence of two to 20 years and a fine of up to $10,000. Usrey also faces another felony drug charge tied to Penalty Group 2, which covers certain stimulants and hallucinogens.

He also has a run of scheduled live appearances in Texas in the coming weeks, including the Montgomery County Fair, Fiesta Oyster Bake, Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival, and Kid Rock’s “Rock the Country” event.

Days before the arrest, Usrey shared a performance video of “Smoke in the Air,” a song from his latest album. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he described “These Days” as a more reflective project that focused on growth, saying it was about “counting the little wins” and that “it’s not all self-destruction anymore, it’s about real stuff.”
