Mike Trout Leaves After Another Hit By Pitch, Mariners Keep Coming Inside

Mike Trout exited Sunday’s game after a 94.2 mph fastball from Mariners reliever Casey Legumina struck his hand in the eighth inning at Angel Stadium. The Angels star checked his swing on an inside pitch, reacted in pain, and initially tried to stay in the game before he was replaced by pinch-runner Oswald Peraza.

Trout appeared to be in discomfort as he walked down the first-base line with trainer Mike Frostad. The injury incident came after another brushback moment earlier in the series, when Trout was also hit by a pitch from Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo in the Angels’ home opener.

Sequence of the injury and immediate response

Event Detail
Pitcher Casey Legumina
Pitch speed 94.2 mph
Inning Eighth
Contact point Hand
Replacement Oswald Peraza

The latest pitch added more tension to a series that had already featured multiple inside throws. Trout also was struck by Woo on Friday after two straight pitches went up and in, and he later said Woo apologized after a separate sequence when Trout ran near the mound after a foul ball.

Second hit in the same series adds concern

The repeated crowding inside has became a notable part of the matchup between the Angels and Mariners. Mariners starter Bryan Woo previously hit Trout with a sinker in the home opener, while Angels left-hander Reid Detmers later threw behind Julio Rodríguez without contact after saying he pulled the pitch by accident.

The Angels have not yet detailed the full extent of Trout’s hand issue, and his status will draw close attention going forward. Any absence from Trout would matter significantly for Los Angeles, given his status as the club’s most visible offensive threat and a central figure in every series against a division opponent like Seattle.
