A’ja Wilson Stays In Vegas, The WNBA’s Biggest Superstar Gets A Record Deal

A’ja Wilson has agreed to stay with the Las Vegas Aces on a three-year, $5 million supermax contract, according to sources told ESPN. The fully guaranteed deal is the largest in WNBA history to date and keeps the league’s first four-time MVP with the team that drafted her first overall in 2018.

The Aces announced Wilson’s return but did not reveal the financial terms. Wilson has spent her entire eight-year WNBA career in Las Vegas and said last week that she was not looking to leave the franchise.

A Historic Deal for the League

The contract gives Wilson $1.4 million for the upcoming season under the next WNBA collective bargaining agreement, with the salary set to rise over the following two years. The structure is tied to her receiving 20% of the team’s salary cap, a framework supported by the league’s new revenue-share model.

Jade-Li English of Klutch Sports Group negotiated the agreement, which underscores Wilson’s unmatched value on and off the court. Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell remains the only other player on a supermax deal, though her contract runs for one season.

Wilson’s Commitment to Las Vegas

Wilson made her position clear when she spoke to media at USA Basketball’s national team training camp. “I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas,” Wilson said Friday. “I’m looking to win another one.”

That message fits a player who has already delivered three WNBA championships for the Aces and has become the face of the franchise. She added that her focus is on defending the title in Las Vegas and improving as a leader and player.

Why the Aces Kept Their Core Intact

The re-signing means Las Vegas brings back 90% of its scoring power from the championship team, based on 75.5 of 83.6 points per game from last season. That level of continuity gives the Aces a strong foundation as they try to stay among the league’s top contenders.

Wilson remains the centerpiece of that formula because her production reaches across every part of the game. She averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.6 steals while shooting 50.5% from the field in 2025.

A Record-Breaking Resume

Wilson had a rare season that no player in WNBA or NBA history had achieved before. She became the first player in either league to win the scoring title, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP in the same season.

Her trophy case already includes seven All-Star selections, five First Team honors and four All-Defensive First Team nods. She also helped Las Vegas win its first title in 2022 and repeat in 2023, where she earned Finals MVP honors again.

What Wilson Means to the Aces

Aces president and general manager Nikki Fargas praised Wilson in a statement that highlighted both her production and leadership. “A’ja is truly one of one, who has led this franchise to where it is today,” Fargas said. “Not only has she catapulted into the history books and surpassed almost every record in existence, but she does so with the utmost confidence, authenticity and grace.”

Wilson’s influence extends well beyond the WNBA, too. She won an NCAA title at South Carolina under Dawn Staley in 2017 and captured Olympic gold with Team USA in Tokyo and Paris.
