Barcelona are exploring a new deal for Robert Lewandowski, and the proposal could involve a contract extension through 2027. At the same time, the Polish forward has attracted concrete interest from Chicago Fire, clubs in Saudi Arabia, and two leading European teams.
According to Sky Sport and reporter Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants to keep Lewandowski at the club for longer, but the plan may depend on a wage reduction. So far, no detailed salary talks have taken place, although negotiations are expected to start soon.
Barcelona’s stance on Lewandowski
Plettenberg said on X that Laporta is considering extending Lewandowski’s contract until 2027. The report also noted that Barcelona may look for a lower salary structure as part of any new agreement.
The situation has not reached the stage of formal financial talks yet. Still, the relationship between Laporta, Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi, and the player himself is seen as a positive factor that could help both sides move closer to an agreement.
Chicago Fire have already made a move
Chicago Fire have gone beyond interest and submitted a first official offer, according to Sky Sport. The MLS club is understood to have proposed a two-year contract on record financial terms.
Chicago Fire also hold the discovery rights to Lewandowski, which gives them a key position in the race. The club reportedly wants the striker to become both the face of the team and one of the league’s main stars.
The financial details of the offer were not disclosed, but the proposal has been described in the media as “very favorable.” Talks between the sides are said to have been underway since December 2025, and Anna Lewandowska’s visit to Chicago in November of the same year was linked in reports to the ongoing negotiations.
Interest from outside Spain is growing
Chicago Fire are not alone in pushing for Lewandowski’s signing. The Sky report says clubs from Saudi Arabia and two top European teams are also monitoring the situation closely.
That wider interest gives Lewandowski several possible directions for the next stage of his career. Barcelona, however, still appear willing to keep him, provided the financial terms fit the club’s plans.
