A man in Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra, was found dead with severe injuries early Saturday morning. The victim, identified as Anan, 40, was discovered by residents near the Bal River in the Ulu Dusun Sri Penganten area of Pasenan Village, Kecamatan STL Ulu Terawas.
Anan’s body was found in a gruesome state, with the head separated from the torso. Multiple parts of muscle tissue on his chest and shoulders were missing. His body also bore claw marks, strongly indicating an animal attack.
Local residents suspect that Anan was killed by a tiger while fishing alone. According to a neighbor, Ali, Anan had gone to the Bal River area around 8 p.m. to fish using a net. When he did not return by nightfall, his family and others began searching for him.
The search team conducted a thorough sweep along the riverbank, which is located within the boundaries of the Bukit Duabelas National Park, where tiger sightings are sometimes reported. Anan was found deceased at approximately 2 a.m.
Witness accounts and the condition of the body suggest a tiger attack. Anan’s eyes and ears were missing, reinforcing the theory that a large predator was responsible for the fatal injuries. Police and local authorities are currently conducting an investigation to confirm these suspicions.
Tiger attacks in the region have been uncommon but not unheard of. The surrounding forest areas are known habitats for Sumatran tigers, an endangered species. Encroachment on tiger territory and human activity near dense forests increase the chances of such encounters.
Residents of Musi Rawas have expressed concern about safety following the incident. Authorities have been advised to increase patrols and implement measures to prevent further attacks. Awareness campaigns about wildlife risks are recommended to educate people who frequently enter forested or riverine zones.
Key information about the incident includes:
1. Victim: Anan, 40 years old, resident of Dusun IV, Batu Gane Village
2. Location: Near Bal River, Ulu Dusun Sri Penganten, Pasenan Village
3. Time found: Early morning, about 2 a.m.
4. Cause of death: Suspected tiger attack, evidenced by body mutilation and claw marks

Authorities are urging those who live near or utilize natural areas prone to wildlife presence to remain vigilant. Following safety protocols can minimize the risk of dangerous encounters with wild animals like tigers.
This tragic incident highlights the complex balance between human activities and wildlife conservation in areas with endangered species habitats. It calls for continued efforts in community safety, environmental protection, and wildlife management to prevent future occurrences.
Local officials continue to monitor the situation and have promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to report any unusual wildlife sightings to authorities promptly.
