The images focus heavily on visual upgrades, especially ray-traced reflections across multiple surfaces. Those reflections appear on vehicle bodies, wet roads, glass windows, storefronts, water surfaces, and metallic objects. The result is a more realistic look than the screen-space reflections still used in many current games. The screenshots also point to several other visual improvements. Character models appear more detailed, facial animation looks more refined, and hair rendering shows individual strands. Rockstar also showcased improved depth of field, upgraded volumetric fog and smoke, more realistic lighting, and denser environmental detail. Taken together, the images suggest one of the biggest upgrades ever seen in the studio’s RAGE engine.
