Apple appears to be sharpening the gap between its next premium iPhone and its more accessible variant. The clearest signal is not a single headline feature, but a broad separation across display, camera, charging, and connectivity.
That divide is expected to define the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, with the main model positioned as the more complete package. The iPhone 18e, meanwhile, is being shaped as a lower entry point into Apple’s flagship ecosystem without carrying every top-tier upgrade.
A sharper split in the display
The most immediate difference will likely be visible the moment the screen turns on. The iPhone 18 is said to use a 6.3-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the iPhone 18e is reported to get a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 60Hz refresh rate.
That means scrolling, app transitions, and interface animations should feel noticeably different between the two devices. The iPhone 18 is also expected to keep ProMotion, which reinforces its more premium position.
Brightness and protection also appear to diverge. The iPhone 18 is said to reach up to 3,000 nits and use next-generation Gorilla Glass Ceramic, while the iPhone 18e is reported to offer 1,200 nits with standard Ceramic Shield protection.
Camera differences go beyond the rear lens count
Apple is also expected to widen the gap through imaging hardware. The iPhone 18 is rumored to carry a dual 48MP camera system with an ultra-wide lens, while the iPhone 18e is said to rely on a single 48MP main camera.
That extra ultra-wide lens should make the iPhone 18 more versatile for landscapes, group shots, and wider framing needs. For users who care about content creation, the additional lens also adds more shooting flexibility.
Video capture is likely to favor the higher model as well. The iPhone 18 is expected to bring Dolby Vision HDR and a more refined Cinematic Mode, alongside an 18MP front camera paired with a ToF sensor.
The iPhone 18e is still reported to support 4K 60fps video recording. Even so, it does not appear to receive the same front-camera leap that is being linked to the iPhone 18.
Same chip, different experience
Interestingly, both models are said to share the Apple A20 chipset built on a 3nm process. Each device is also expected to come with 8GB of RAM, suggesting that core performance should remain competitive across the line.
Even with that shared foundation, Apple seems intent on separating the user experience in other ways. The premium model is being given the newer connectivity stack, which adds another layer to the distinction.
The iPhone 18 is reported to support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. The iPhone 18e, by contrast, is said to stay on Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.
Charging speed helps define the premium tier
Charging is another area where the two models do not appear to be close. The iPhone 18 is said to support 40W wired fast charging and 25W wireless charging.
The iPhone 18e is reported to support only 15W wireless charging, with no clear information about wired fast charging support. For users who rely on quick top-ups during a busy day, that difference could matter just as much as the display or camera split.
Pricing keeps the positioning clear
The expected prices also underline Apple’s segmentation strategy. Analysts predict the iPhone 18 will start at Rp16.2 million, while the iPhone 18e is projected to sit at around Rp11.4 million.
That spread makes the iPhone 18e look like a more affordable way into Apple’s flagship family. The iPhone 18, on the other hand, is being set up for buyers who want the fuller combination of display quality, camera capability, modern connectivity, and faster charging.
The two models are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2027. Based on the current leaks, the iPhone 18 is being built to stand clearly above the iPhone 18e in nearly every area that shapes day-to-day use.
