A 12.4-Inch Rollable Display and 324MP Camera Push Samsung’s Galaxy Z Roll Into Bold New Territory

Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Z Roll 5G is drawing attention for one simple reason: it tries to solve one of the biggest complaints about foldables by removing the crease altogether. Instead of folding inward like a conventional book-style device, the concept reportedly uses a motorized sliding mechanism that lets the display expand and retract horizontally.

That idea alone makes the device stand out, but the leak goes much further. The same concept is said to pair a rollable 12.4-inch panel with an eye-catching 324MP main camera, creating a specification sheet that feels more experimental than realistic at first glance.

A display that grows without a visible fold

The most unusual part of the Galaxy Z Roll concept is its screen behavior. When fully extended, the Rollable Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel is said to reach 12.4 inches, while the body shrinks back to about 6.5 inches when the display is pulled in.

That approach is meant to deliver tablet-like space without the crease that typically comes with foldable designs. Samsung has already shown interest in expandable-screen devices before, including the Flex Duet prototype that was said to grow from 8.1 inches to 12.4 inches.

The rumored display is also described as supporting a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Those figures suggest a device aimed at heavy visual use, from multitasking to media consumption.

Premium performance with adaptive behavior

Under the hood, the leak points to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro built on a 2nm architecture. The chip is said to include a dedicated “Canvas Engine” that adjusts power use depending on how wide the display is when the panel moves in or out.

Memory and storage are also listed at the high end. The device is said to offer up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage.

The software layer is reportedly based on One UI with Android 16. Samsung is also said to be working on interface adjustments that include a dynamic taskbar and app layouts that can resize in real time as the screen changes shape.

S Pen support and desktop-style use

Another detail attached to the concept is Continuous S Pen Support, including while the display is in motion. That would make the device more practical for note-taking or sketching across different screen sizes.

The leak also mentions native DeX support, which would give the Roll a more desktop-like experience when needed. In addition, an AI Privacy Shield feature is said to use a micro-shutter layer to reduce the chance of side viewing.

The camera setup is where the rumor becomes most extreme

The most aggressive claim involves the rear camera system. The main sensor is said to be an ISOCELL HR1 324MP unit with 16-in-1 pixel binning.

That main camera would be joined by a 50MP periscope camera with 10x optical zoom and 100x Space Zoom, plus a 50MP ultra-wide camera with dedicated macro support. On the front, the leak points to a 12MP under-display camera.

That setup would fit the goal of keeping the large screen clean in full-display mode. It would also make the phone look more like a futuristic concept than a conventional flagship.

Battery, materials, and durability

To support the large panel and the motorized mechanism, the Galaxy Z Roll is said to use an 8,000mAh dual-cell silicon-anode battery. Charging is reportedly rated at 100W wired and 25W wireless.

The body is also described as using a Grade 5 titanium frame with a nano-coating finish. Protection is said to carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Samsung’s wider display experiments

The Galaxy Z Roll is not the only forward-looking screen project linked to Samsung. The company is also said to be developing Sensor OLED technology that places health sensors directly into the panel.

That concept is described as capable of measuring heart rate, blood pressure, and stress levels without extra accessories. It is also said to maintain a density of up to 500 ppi, so the added functions would not come at the cost of display quality.

Samsung is also reportedly exploring holographic displays with a special layer and eye-tracking system. That setup could create a stronger sense of depth and allow objects to appear from different angles when the phone is tilted.

If these ideas continue to move forward, Samsung’s next wave of mobile innovation may be defined by more than just new form factors. It could also reshape how people interact with content, from gaming and virtual meetings to 3D-style shopping experiences.
