Toyota has opened the Indian launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella with a headline that will draw attention across the EV segment: the top-spec E3 is priced at Rs 23.60 lakh, ex-showroom. At the same time, the model arrives with a claimed driving range of up to 543 km, giving Toyota a strong entry point in a crowded electric SUV market.
The new SUV is built on the same base as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, but Toyota has positioned it with its own identity and equipment mix. Bookings have been open since January, while prices for the E1 and E2 variants are still to be announced.
Two battery choices, two clear priorities
Toyota is offering the Urban Cruiser Ebella with 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs. The larger 61kWh unit is available on the E2 and E3 variants and is the one linked to the 543 km claimed range.
The entry battery version uses a 49kWh pack and is rated at 440 km. That split gives buyers a clear choice between a more affordable setup and the longer-range option.
Performance also changes depending on the battery. The E3 produces 171 bhp and 189 Nm, while the smaller-battery version delivers 144 hp.
Design moves toward a cleaner electric look
Toyota has used its “Urban Tech” design language for the Ebella, giving the SUV a more modern and assertive appearance. The front end stands out with a hammerhead-style fascia, triangle-shaped LED headlamps with DRLs, and a gloss-black closed grille.
The body lines are shaped to look more aerodynamic, which helps the SUV appear cleaner and more EV-focused. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and is offered in five monotone colours and four dual-tone combinations.
Among the colours mentioned are Cafe White, Sportin Red, and Enticing Silver.
A feature-rich cabin aimed at comfort
Inside, Toyota has equipped the Urban Cruiser Ebella with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, giving the cabin a modern connectivity setup.
Comfort features include heated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. The SUV also gets 12-color ambient lighting and a JBL audio system, adding to the premium feel of the interior.
The rear seat can slide and recline, which should make the second row more flexible for passengers. That detail also helps the cabin feel more practical for daily use.
Safety and driver assistance are a major part of the package
Toyota has fitted seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, and disc brakes on all four wheels. Those additions give the Ebella a solid safety list even before the top trim’s advanced systems are considered.
The E3 variant adds Level 2 ADAS, including lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control. That puts the highest trim in a stronger position for buyers looking for more driver support in an electric SUV.
Charging and ownership support
The Urban Cruiser Ebella supports both AC charging and DC fast charging. That gives owners flexibility whether they charge at home or need a quicker top-up on the move.
Toyota also includes the Toyota i-Connect platform, which allows remote vehicle monitoring, charging control, and scheduling. On the ownership side, the company is offering an eight-year power pack warranty, battery-as-a-service or BaaS, a buyback program, and financing options.
With pricing now revealed for the E3, Toyota has placed the Urban Cruiser Ebella into the market with a clear long-range message. Attention now shifts to the E1 and E2 prices, which will determine how broadly the model can appeal in India’s electric SUV space.
