Apple’s next major software cycle may leave one of its most popular older iPhone lineups behind. Early indications suggest that iOS 27 could end support for the iPhone 11 series, a possibility that is already drawing attention from owners of those devices.
The issue matters because the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max are still widely used, even though the lineup is now more than six years old. A similar concern also applies to the iPhone SE (2020), which shares the same A13 Bionic chip and is therefore being watched closely.
WWDC 2026 will be the key moment
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 on 8 June. At that event, the company is also likely to reveal the official compatibility list, open developer beta access, and outline the direction of new iPhone features.

Why the iPhone 11 series is under pressure
The main reason the iPhone 11 family is in the spotlight is the A13 Bionic chip. The question is whether that hardware still has enough headroom for the demands of the next version of iOS.
That concern is not limited to raw performance. New system features increasingly depend on AI and machine learning, which can make older hardware less suitable for the latest software requirements.
Devices that still appear safe

After WWDC, Apple is expected to release a developer beta first. A public beta usually follows within weeks, while the final version of iOS 27 would likely arrive alongside the next iPhone lineup in the second half of 2026.
