Huawei is preparing to widen its tablet lineup in Indonesia with the MatePad Mini, a compact model aimed at users who want a device that can do more without taking up much space. The launch details and full pricing for Indonesia will be revealed on June 24.
At a media experience in Jakarta, Edy Supartono, Senior Retail Manager Huawei Device Indonesia, said the Huawei MatePad Mini is one of the world’s thinnest 8.8-inch tablets. It measures just 5.2 mm thick and weighs 260 grams, making it the most compact tablet Huawei has offered so far.
A compact body with a premium display
The MatePad Mini uses an OLED PaperMatte display designed to feel closer to writing on paper while also reducing glare. Huawei says the screen carries a 2.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of up to 1,800 nits.
The bezels around the screen are only 2.9 mm thick, helping Huawei reduce the tablet’s overall dimensions by 4.1% while expanding the visible display area by 9.4%. The result is a screen-to-body ratio of 92%.
For eye comfort, the tablet includes an Eye comfort mode that filters blue light and an eBook mode that switches content to black and white. Huawei says the device has also received TÜV Rheinland and SGS Low Visual Fatigue certification.
Camera, productivity, and creative tools
On the back, the MatePad Mini carries a 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultrawide camera, wrapped in a ring-style design inspired by luxury watches. A 32 MP front camera sits on one corner of the display for selfies and video calls.
Huawei has also loaded the tablet with tools for work and creativity. Huawei Notes can recognize mathematical formulas and handwriting, WPS PC Level is included for document editing, and GoPaint is available for drawing.
The device supports the Huawei Fold Cover case, which can be used in several modes, along with the third-generation Huawei M-Pencil. The stylus offers 10,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and a low 0.8 ms latency.
Battery and launch timing
Power comes from a 6,400 mAh battery that Huawei claims can support up to 15.5 hours of video playback. The tablet also supports 66W fast charging.
Full specifications and Indonesia pricing for the Huawei MatePad Mini will be announced on June 24. For buyers looking at compact tablets, that reveal will likely determine how strong its appeal becomes in the local market.
