Insta360 Luna Ultra Moves Up Launch, Two Leica Cameras and a Detachable Screen

Insta360 has moved up the launch of Luna Ultra, its new vlogging camera built to challenge the DJI Osmo Pocket line. The device, which was originally scheduled for release next week, will now arrive on Wednesday (10/6/2026).

The earlier debut appears to have been driven by leaked retail availability, with units already surfacing at several sellers, including B&H Photo in New York. In a crowded handheld gimbal camera market, Luna Ultra is arriving with a feature set aimed squarely at content creators.

Dual camera system with Leica optics

Luna Ultra uses a dual-camera setup supported by a three-axis gimbal stabilizer. The main camera is paired with a Leica Summicron lens and a Type 1 sensor, while the telephoto camera uses a Type 1/1.3 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

That combination enables lossless optical zoom up to 6x and digital zoom up to 12x. Max Richter, VP of Marketing and Co-Founder of Insta360, said, “Luna Ultra marks Insta360’s arrival in the gimbal camera arena, backed by the full strength of our imaging expertise.”

Detachable OLED screen for solo shooting

One of Luna Ultra’s most notable differences is its detachable OLED touchscreen. The design makes solo shooting easier because the display can serve as both a remote control and a monitoring screen for framing.

Insta360 is also offering an optional POV Head Tracker accessory for hands-free recording. Together, these additions make the camera more adaptable for shooting from a distance or while the user is moving freely.

8K video and high-resolution stills

On the video side, Luna Ultra supports recording up to 8K at 30fps in Dolby Vision. It also supports 10-bit I-Log with a claimed 14-stop dynamic range, plus Leica Natural, Vivid, and Chrome color profiles and an ACES professional workflow.

For photos, the device can produce 37 MP UltraPhotos and 200 MP Scenic Panorama images. That means Luna Ultra is not only focused on stabilization and zoom, but also on more serious image-making needs.

AI subject tracking and supporting features

Luna Ultra’s motion stabilization is reinforced by AI Deep Track 5.0, which includes Auto Tracking, Active Zoom Tracking, Group Tracking, and Smart Framing. The goal is straightforward: keep the subject centered and in focus as the camera moves.

Other included features are built-in timecode, color profile sharing via QR code, an internal wind guard for cleaner audio without an extra mic, and support for magnetic lenses or filters. With this package, Luna Ultra is positioned as a working tool that is not limited to visuals alone.

Insta360 Luna Ultra price

Insta360 equips Luna Ultra with a 1,550 mAh battery rated for up to 4 hours of use. Fast charging is also aggressive, with the battery said to reach 80% in 23 minutes.

For storage, the camera includes 47GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 1TB via microSD card. Luna Ultra comes in Cosmic Black and Stellar White, priced at USD 769.99, and is now being sold globally.
