The debate around GTA 6 has shifted from hype to a very specific trade-off: would players rather get the game on schedule with 30 FPS, or wait another six months for 60 FPS? On Reddit, the answer from many fans was unusually consistent, and it pointed to one priority above all else, no more delays.
The discussion began after GTA Unlimited, a GTA 6 news channel, asked fans on X what mattered most to them. The question gained traction there first, then spread to Reddit, where it drew more than 1,400 comments in a single day.
Performance concerns are already shaping expectations
That reaction reflects how sensitive the topic of performance has become around the next Grand Theft Auto. Many players are already bracing for the possibility that GTA 6 may launch with a 30 FPS cap, especially as current console hardware is seen as limited.
There is also concern that Rockstar could repeat a familiar pattern. Red Dead Redemption 2 still has no 60 FPS patch, and that has left some fans worried that GTA 6 could follow the same path if the studio prioritizes release timing over performance upgrades.
The choice presented in the debate, however, made the trade-off clear. If the only options are 30 FPS at launch or 60 FPS after a six-month delay, many fans say they would rather accept the lower frame rate and play sooner.
One of the top replies summed up that mood in blunt terms: “Release today, 15 FPS.” The comment was exaggerated, but it captured the same message repeated across the thread.
Console players and PC players are not looking at the issue the same way
For many console players, 30 FPS is still considered acceptable for a large open-world game. In that context, the biggest concern is not frame rate alone, but the risk of waiting even longer for the game to arrive.
PC players, by contrast, are expected to hold a different standard. For them, 60 FPS is already the norm, which is why many expect Rockstar to include at least a performance mode when the PC version eventually arrives.
There is still uncertainty over how long fans will continue tolerating 30 FPS as a compromise. When the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Helix eventually arrive, expectations on consoles are likely to rise as well.
For now, though, the discussion says more about anticipation than technical demands. Fans are showing that they would rather see GTA 6 launch than watch it slip again, even if that means accepting a performance target that would frustrate some players in another release.
