Samsung is narrowing the feature gap between the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S26 with a June software update. The new release adds three Galaxy AI capabilities that were previously associated with the newer lineup, giving the 2025 flagship a more complete set of tools.
The most noticeable changes focus on notifications and document handling. For users who deal with a constant stream of alerts, messages, and work files, the update is designed to make daily use feel more organized and less cluttered.
Three AI features arrive in the ZF1 firmware
The update reaches the Galaxy S25 through ZF1 firmware and also raises the security patch to June 2026. Alongside that maintenance update, Samsung is rolling out Prioritize notifications, Summarize notifications, and File Summaries.
Prioritize notifications uses AI to sort alerts by importance based on their content. That means sensitive-time messages, reminders, and important conversations can be placed ahead of less urgent notifications.
Samsung says the processing happens locally on the device, which keeps privacy and security concerns in check. There is one limitation, however: the feature only works when the notification language matches the phone’s language.
Summarize notifications takes a different approach by condensing notification threads into shorter summaries. The goal is to help users understand the core message of a long alert stream without opening every individual update.
This should be especially useful for people who receive many notifications throughout the day. A cleaner notification view can make it easier to focus on the alerts that actually matter.
File Summaries extends AI to documents
File Summaries brings AI support to files stored on the phone, including PDF and text documents. It creates short overviews so users can understand the main points of a document without reading every page from start to finish.
That function is especially practical for long files. It gives users a quick way to assess what a document contains before deciding whether to read it in full.
Galaxy S25 moves closer to Galaxy S26
Samsung had already pushed One UI 8.5 to the Galaxy S25 and other flagship devices in May. That update brought several Galaxy AI functions that first appeared on the Galaxy S26 series, but some features were still missing.
The June rollout fills in more of those gaps. With these three additions, the Galaxy S25 now gets very close to matching the AI feature set of the Galaxy S26.
That matters because it shows Samsung is not limiting key AI tools to the newest model generation. For Galaxy S25 owners, the device stays relevant for longer without needing a hardware upgrade just to gain software features.
The gap may not stay closed for long, though. Samsung is reportedly testing One UI 9 based on Android 17 in a limited public beta for the Galaxy S26 series, which could widen the feature difference again later.
Availability is still expanding
At the moment, the June 2026 update for the Galaxy S25 is rolling out in South Korea first. Wider availability is expected in the next few days.
The same Galaxy AI features may also reach the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. The reason is simple: both foldables share the same hardware platform as the Galaxy S25.
If that expansion happens, Samsung will be extending a similar AI experience across more of its flagship lineup. It would also underline how much the company’s AI strategy now depends on software updates and shared hardware foundations.
