Apple is preparing a major shift for Siri in iOS 27, and the update appears to go far beyond a simple intelligence boost. The assistant is being redesigned to understand personal context, react to what is on the screen, and work more naturally across Apple devices and apps.
The direction matters because Siri has long been criticized for lagging behind more flexible AI assistants. Early developer beta details highlighted by MacRumors suggest Apple is now pushing Siri toward a more central role in daily iPhone, iPad, and Mac use.
Personal context is becoming a core feature
One of the biggest changes in iOS 27 is “personal context,” a capability that lets Siri draw from data such as messages, email, photos, and calendar entries. That gives the assistant more room to answer questions and carry out tasks with greater precision.
Instead of requiring highly detailed commands every time, Siri may be able to help users find photos from a specific event, locate an email with important information, add event details to a calendar, or share a file more accurately. The goal is to make the assistant aware of habits and priorities, not just isolated instructions.
Siri can now respond to what is on screen
Apple is also adding “on-screen awareness,” which allows Siri to understand the content currently displayed on the device. This is one of the most significant changes because it gives the assistant visual context, not just voice input.
If a user is looking at a photo of a landmark, Siri can provide historical information or directions to the location. If an article is open, Siri can summarize the main points or suggest related topics without forcing the user to switch apps.
Answers are being expanded and refined
iOS 27 is also said to broaden Siri’s knowledge base so it can provide more complete and more logical answers. The focus is not only on adding more information, but on making responses easier to understand and grounded in credible sources.
That broader scope is expected to cover practical suggestions, discussion of upcoming product rumors, and deeper research topics. For users, that could make Siri more useful both as a quick search tool and as a learning assistant.
Cross-app actions are part of the plan
Apple is pushing Siri to handle actions inside and across apps, reducing the need for constant app switching. That could make everyday tasks faster and more fluid on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
For example, users may be able to create reminders, attach files, or manage budgeting tasks without leaving the app they are using. Siri may also help draft an email in Mail and continue the flow by sharing it through Messages.
A dedicated Siri app and cloud sync are also coming
iOS 27 is expected to include a dedicated Siri app that serves as a central place for interactions with the assistant. Conversations, tasks, and settings would sit in one more focused interface.
Apple is also said to be adding cloud-based synchronization, which would let a task started on one device continue on another. That would strengthen the sense of continuity across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Still limited to developer beta for now
All of these capabilities are currently tied to the developer beta of iOS 27, which means the final release may still change in appearance, behavior, or scope. Apple has not locked in the public version yet.
Even so, the early picture is clear: Siri is being reshaped into a more personal, more aware, and more connected assistant. If Apple keeps this direction through the final release, iOS 27 could mark the moment Siri becomes a much more practical center of the Apple ecosystem.
