Odin 3 Gets a Deep Stability Fix, Retroid Pocket 6 Adds Two Notable New Features

AYN Odin 3 and Retroid Pocket 6 have both received fresh OTA updates, but the two devices are being handled in different ways. Odin 3 is getting a stability-focused patch, while Pocket 6 stands out for adding two new features on top of bug fixes.

For handheld Android users, updates like these matter because they can shape everyday reliability, game compatibility, and general system behavior. In this round, AYN is concentrating on core fixes for Odin 3, while Retroid is using the update to refine the experience and expand what the device can do.

AYN Odin 3 leans on core fixes

AYN has released Odin 3 version 1.0.0.187 without introducing any new features. The update instead focuses on fixes across the GPU, display, battery behavior, and several game-specific issues.

One of the most significant changes is a GPU driver update to version 800.72, which is intended to address GPU hangs in demanding titles such as Zenless Zone Zero. The patch also targets a random crash issue in PUBG Mobile.

Other fixes include a microphone problem that caused voice calls in WeChat to remain silent, an abnormal resolution display when connected to AR glasses, and an input method pop-up bug during wireless Shizuku pairing. AYN also corrected an inaccurate battery cutoff current reading reported by some apps, including Battery Monitor.apk.

Even with the long list of fixes, some long-standing complaints remain unresolved. Comments in the Odin 3 Discord channel indicate that HDR display issues and fan noise are still not included in this update.

Rocknix users should take one extra step

There is one important warning for Odin 3 owners running Rocknix. During the update process, some users may encounter the error message “Upgrade failed. code = 20”.

The suggested fix is to restore the original bootloader by running the restore_backup_abl script as root. After that step, the update is reported to install normally.

Retroid Pocket 6 adds more than bug fixes

Retroid Pocket 6 also received an OTA update, version 1.0.0.404. Unlike the Odin 3 patch, this one brings two new features in addition to several bug fixes.

The update addresses a power consumption issue that appeared when the Retroid Dual Screen Add-on was connected in sleep mode. It also fixes a permissions error related to isSafetyCenterEnabled in PrebuiltGmsCore and the Play Store app.

Retroid also corrected an incorrect string configuration in the lock screen interface. While minor on the surface, this kind of fix helps improve day-to-day system consistency.

The two new features are the main reason this update stands out. One is a new gamepad takeover method that supports vibration feedback and haptic functions on the NS Pro Controller.

The other is support for ultra black mode on OLED displays. For users who care about visual quality and power efficiency, that addition is especially relevant.

Why the two updates matter

The latest OTA releases show that AYN and Retroid are still actively maintaining their Android handhelds. They also make the companies’ priorities clear, with Odin 3 centered on stability and Pocket 6 receiving both maintenance fixes and new capabilities.

For owners of either device, the updates are worth installing because they touch key areas such as gaming performance, input handling, connectivity, and power management. For Pocket 6 users, this OTA is also the first major update since the device launched.
