Galaxy Z Flip 8 May Split by Region, Samsung’s Chip Strategy Looks Riskier Than Before

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 is shaping up to be one of the company’s most watched foldables, not because of design alone, but because of an unusual chipset strategy. New leaks suggest the clamshell model may ship with different processors depending on the market, a move that could leave buyers with different hardware experiences under the same product name.

The reported split would mark another major shift for Samsung’s foldable line. After the Galaxy Z Flip 7 introduced Exynos 2500 into the series, the next model is now said to move further into a dual-chip approach with Exynos 2600 for some regions and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy for others.

Regional chipset split takes shape

According to tipster Lanzuk in a Naver post, the Exynos version of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected in South Korea and selected European markets. Japan and several other global regions are said to receive the Snapdragon variant instead.

This approach would give Samsung more flexibility in how it distributes its premium foldable, while also showing a stronger push for its own chip division in higher-end devices. At the same time, the company would still keep Qualcomm in the lineup for markets where Snapdragon remains the preferred option.

Why Samsung’s move matters

Samsung’s foldables have traditionally relied on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, so the shift on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 already stood out. If the latest leak proves accurate, Galaxy Z Flip 8 would continue that transition, but without fully abandoning Qualcomm.

Exynos 2600 is also expected to be Samsung’s first chip built on its new 2nm GAA process. The chip is believed to cost less than Qualcomm’s flagship alternative, which could help Samsung manage production expenses in some regions.

That cost angle gives the strategy a clear business logic. By pairing Exynos and Snapdragon across different markets, Samsung may be aiming to balance manufacturing efficiency with premium positioning.

The same treatment does not appear to be planned for every foldable in the next lineup. Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are reportedly still set to use Snapdragon processors only, which suggests Samsung may be testing this regional split first on the Flip series.

Launch timing and other details

Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to debut at Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event. The event is reportedly scheduled for July 22 in London, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Samsung has not confirmed any of these hardware details yet, so the chip configuration still remains unofficial. Even so, the leak has already made the Flip 8 one of the most closely watched foldables ahead of launch.

Other rumored specifications are also beginning to emerge. The device is said to follow the design language of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, while carrying a 4,300mAh battery and 25W wired fast charging.

On the software side, the phone is expected to launch with Android 17 based on One UI 9. If that proves true, Samsung would be pairing the Flip 8’s regional chipset strategy with its latest software platform from day one.

The biggest question now is not whether the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will arrive, but how Samsung will explain the different hardware paths by market. For buyers, the country of sale may matter more than before when deciding what version of the device they will actually get.
